~E~

Today's A to Z Challenge letter is ~E~ and it is about the haunted ruins of a castle and city once occupied by a sacrificed people in my WIP.

Echo of the Past

Laughter of children heard no more
As toys lie broken on the floor
Dust on tattered curtains amassed
A solemn echo of the past

Hearths lay empty, no fire crackles
Broken pot on bent hook wobbles
As mourning breeze moves through downcast
A solemn echo of the past

Sad breeze blows slowly through the maze
Over rubble and ruins of long ago days.
A people now gone, their dreams smashed
A solemn echo of the past.

  2. Very visual! I've never written much poetry but am amazed by people who do...especially several days in a row! :) Good work.

    1. It is a challenge. I had only 7 of the 26 poems prewritten and am now kicking myself for not doing more. *guilty grin*

  3. E could also stand for eerie in this case! You definitely got that haunting across well. Very nice!

  4. Loved this as well! Especially liked the repeating line (is there a poetry term for that?) When your novel is published, these poems would make a great companion volume.

    1. Thank you, Dawn. This is a Kyrielle, which is a French form of rhyming poetry written in quatrains.
A friend of mine said the same thing about a poetry companion. I will definitely keep it in mind.
