Peep Show of The Severing

Image
Last week was a bit hectic in my little slice of the world, and I totally forgot about my blog. *sheepish-grin* My bloggy friends will understand, so I don't feel too guilty about this oversight. Thanks to funny writer and bloggy friend, Heather over at Minivan Momma for tagging me for the Peep Show Challenge and reminding me that I have been bloggy negligent. The Challenge: Go to page 77 of your own book or manuscript, count down 7 lines and then list the 7 lines that follow. Then pass the challenge on to some writer buddies to do the same. My 7 lines happen to be a bit of dialogue, which I think is probably just going to be confusing, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. Excerpt From The Severing by Sabrina A. Fish      “The Light has indeed blessed this world,” the old woman stated, her face as still as a lake on a windless day.      Jakys leaned toward the crystal. “What news of our high queen? Is she found? Is she safe?”     ...

Guest posting and Blog Award

Image
I am excited this week because I'll be guest posting over on the brand new Oklahoma Women Bloggers  fabulous blog on Tuesday! I was so honored to have OKWB mediator(is this the right word?) and bloggy friend, Heather Davis ask me to post for their inaugural month to kick things off. Are you a woman blogger in Oklahoma? Check it out and get to know other bloggers in our area! The theme for this month is "All Things New" so I'll be talking about my newest project, an MG novel about a boy who embarks on an adventure to discover who he is after he falls into the sea and turns into a merboy. There is even a  tiny excerpt that my 6 year old suggested I share. I've also had the honor of being nominated by Emma L. Adams over at From the Writer's Nest for the Liebster Blog Award. This award is given to newer bloggers with less than 200 members and the purpose is to get to know them since we think they deserve it. Liebster is German for favorite. So essential...

Back to Reality

Image
This week marked the end of an awesome vacation. (cue the tears) Go here for image.  Why was it awesome? Because I spent it writing, relaxing, and basically doing exactly what I wanted. Today, however, school was back in session and the trophy orders are once again coming in by the ton. This is good, of course. This company does pay the bills, but I still can't help but long for those 2 weeks of blissful writing for hours. Over the break, I also got to *gasp* go to the movies and watch Les Miserables. Have you seen it? Holy Mayonnaise  that movie was incredible! How heart breaking that battle. Did Marius' friend, the rebel leader Enjolras(actor Aaron Tveit), remind anyone else of Jackson Rathbone? I think it might be the jaw. *shrug* I hope you are handling the end of the Christmas break better than I am. Have  you seen Les Mis? Am I delusional in thinking Aaron Tveit looks a little like Jackson Rathbone?

2013 Goals

Image
2013 is here and once again I've made my list of goals. But before I get into those, I'd like to reflect on last year's goals and which I accomplished and which I didn't. They were pretty simple last year. 2012 Goals 1)Have a successful year as 2012 President of Oklahoma City Writers, Inc. 2)Keep my writing a priority and rather than letting a sense of obligation for everyone else in my life shove it to the back burner. 3)Finish WIP #1 4)Pitch WIP #1 to editor at OWFI Conference in May It was difficult at times, but I managed to meet all but 1 of these goals. #3, finish WIP #1 was a rather rediculous goal to make I now realize. Is any MS really finished? Do you ever stop going over it for something else that could be better? No? Me either. That MS is going to be worked on until the day an editor says, "Enough!" and sends it to be printed.  For 2013, I have decided to set my goals a little higher. I want this year to be amazing and to do that I...

Happy Birthday, Jesus & Bring on the Snow!

Can you imagine being an unwed, virgin teenage girl visited by an angel and asked to carry your god's child? Keep in mind the ridicule you'll endure, the possibility that your fiance may withdraw his proposal, and that no one will believe that you didn't give in to premarital sex. I admire Mary for the kind of faith it took to know what would happen, but to say anyway, "I am the Lord's servant. May it be as you have  said." As a mother myself, I know that she didn't regret her choice. I also cannot imagine the pain she must have experienced as she watched him sacrificed for the souls of an ungrateful people. As you celebrate Christmas with your family, give your own children an extra special hug and send up a prayer or two of thanks to a God who loves us so much as to provide salvation in Jesus to an unworthy people and for sending such an amazing example of a mother's love and strength in Mary. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth...
