A to Z Challenge: W is for Winter Ihernglass

The month of April is all about the A to Z Challenge in the bloggy world. This month bloggers near and far have been posting about a theme shaped after the letters of the English alphabet. If you'd like to know more about it for next year, go here.

My theme is Some of my Favorite Female Characters.

W is for Winter Ihernglass
from The Thousand Names(Shadow Campaigns Book 1)
by Django Wexler

I love strong, smart, kick ass female characters as you might have noticed if you've been following my A to Z posts this month. Winter is no exception. Though she has tried to remain on the periphery and unnoticed, she finds herself in the spotlight. Rather than cut and run, she rises to the challenge and shows herself to be a quick thinker and a compassionate leader. She risks her own safety to help others and proves that women can succeed in a military setting right along side men.

Here is the official blurb about the book courtesy of Amazon:

Captain Marcus d’Ivoire, commander of one of the Vordanai empire’s colonial garrisons, was serving out his days in a sleepy, remote outpost—until a rebellion left him in charge of a demoralized force clinging to a small fortress at the edge of the desert.

To flee from her past, Winter Ihernglass masqueraded as a man and enlisted as a ranker in the Vordanai Colonials, hoping only to avoid notice. But when chance sees her promoted to command, she must lead her men into battle against impossible odds.

Their fate depends on Colonel Janus bet Vhalnich. Under his command, Marcus and Winter feel the tide turning and their allegiance being tested. For Janus’s ambitions extend beyond the battlefield and into the realm of the supernatural—a realm with the power to reshape the known world and change the lives of everyone in its path.
