My Theme for the 2014 A to Z Challenge is: SciFi/Fantasy Characters in Novels

I'll introduce you to a new scifi/fantasy character from the plethora of novels I've read over my lifetime. My goal is to entice those who maybe haven't read much in the genre I write and share why I find these characters so interesting. I hope you'll enjoy taking the ride with me.

~G~ is for George Cooper from Tamora Pierce's The Song of the Lioness Series

“From now on I’m Alan of Trebond, the younger twin. I’ll be a knight.”

And so young Alanna of Trebond begins the journey to knighthood. Alanna has always craved the adventure and daring allowed only for boys; her twin brother, Thom, yearns to learn the art of magic. I'm highlighting George from The Song of the Lioness quartet because I read this YA fantasy series when I was in middle school and George was my hero! As the King of Thieves, he was the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, but still an actual good guy. He figures out that Alanna isn't a boy first. He helps her when she needs a female doctor, and he teaches her to defend herself when she'd being bullied. This was a pivotal series in my volatile teen years and I loved it.
